Arthur Hopfinger, 86, of R.R. 2, Mascoutah, died Friday, Nov. 24 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville where he was admitted last Tuesday. He had been at Castle Haven Nursing Center.
A son of the late Anton and Victoria Hopfinger, nee Moeller, he was born in Lebanon Township on July 30, 1885. He married Margaret Schmitz at Mascoutah on February 14, 1913. She died April 27, 1960.
Surviving are two sons, Elmer Hopfinger, R.R. 2 Mascoutah; and Paul Hopfinger, at home; a daughter Mrs. Erwin Wendler, Highland; a brother, Seraphine Hopfinger, Dahlgren; four sisters, Sister Agapita, Poor Handmaids Order, Donaldson, Inc., Sister Ildephonso Precious Blood Order, Ruma, Ill.; Mrs. Catherine Gass, Belleville; and Mrs. Gertrude Sloger, St. Louis; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Mr. Hopfinger a retired farmer was a member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Childhood Church, Catholic Knights and Ladies of Illinois and the St. Clair County Farm Bureau.
The funeral was held at 8:15 a.m. yesterday from the Moll Funeral Home to Holy Childhood Church for services with the Rev. August Glesen, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Holy Childhood Cemetery.
