Lena Elnora Ivey, 84, of White Cloud, died shortly after arrival at the Hiawatha Community Hospital, early Thursday morning, July 5, 2012. She previously had been a resident of Highland Care Center since April. Lena was born March 15, 1928, at Mt. Moriah, Missouri, one of seven children of Dolph and Verna Arney Alexander. Her parents farmed and made their home in several communities in Missouri until her marriage. Lena worked at Flair Fold wood shutter plant in Hiawatha for 4 years prior to working for SRS home care services for 17 years before retiring.

Mrs. Ivey was a member of the Baptist Church at Spickard, Missouri but attended White Cloud Community Christian Church. Lena was also a member of the VFW ladies auxiliary at Wathena.

She married Eugene L. Ivey, December 5, 1945, at Kansas City, Kansas. They lived in Ohio a short time before returning to White Cloud where they made their home and raised their family. They operated a salvage yard for many years along with digging graves in the area and doing odd jobs. They also owned and operated a tavern downtown White Cloud for 14 years. He died in 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sons: Wayne Ivey in 1986, Kenneth Ivey in 2004, Randy Ivey in 2011; a sister Sylvia Holtman; three brothers: Hermal, Kenneth, and Clifford Alexander.

Survivors include three daughters: Linda Langley of White Cloud, Gwen (Don) Weir of Hiawatha, Marjorie "Margie" (David) Calderwood of Seneca; a brother John Alexander of Auburn, WA; a sister Velma McConnell of Tacoma, Washington; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Monday, July 9, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland. Chuck Crawley will officiate. Interment will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery, White Cloud.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon Sunday where the family will meet from 6 until 8 that evening.
