Cooper was born with cataracts on both eyes, removed at 4 months old. He wore glasses at 7 months old. He was diagnosed with Autism at 9 months old, he was non-verbal due to the Autism. He went to Lee school in Springfield Illinois. He liked to watch SpongeBob Squarepants, Toy Story 1 and 2, VeggieTales, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, the TV guide channel, Jimmy Neutron, My Life as A Teenage Robot. In spite of being legally blind, Cooper had an artistic side to him. He painted many abstract works of art in school, one of which won him 2nd place in a school district wide art competition. He was not active in sports due to his blindness. His favorite pet was our calico cat
Olivia, who knew him well and was affectionate. When she lay stretched out on the floor, Cooper liked to put his head on her chest area and listen to her purr. He could differentiate between a Furby and a real animal. He did not like a Furby. Cooper was very ticklish and enjoyed being tickled. He willingly went to church with me and I believe that if he could have been able to talk, he would have been quite learned for his young age. I believe that in Cooper's mind was a wealth of information that he had no way to express except through art, but he had not mastered that concept.
