Obituary for Lucy Oweta Mitchell from the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise August 11 2004:

Graveside services for Oweta Mitchell will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday on the family plot of the Memorial Park Cemetery with Mr. David Mahon, Pastor of East Bartlesville Christian Church officiating. Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home.

Oweta Mitchell was born on April 15, 1920 in Leflore, Oklahoma and left her earthly body on August 7, 2003 in Oklahoma City to be with her Heavenly Father and loved ones.

She was the oldest of four children born to Clarence Nathaniel and Ethel Irene (Williams) Mitchell. She was around two years old when her family moved to Bristow, OK, where she graduated in 1938 from Gypsy High School. She was on the basketball and softball teams with her sister, Margaret. She received her Associates of Art Degree from Bristow Junior College on May 24, 1940. She attended a year and a half at Oklahoma Baptist Univeristy in Shawnee, OK, where she was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She left college during World War II to work for the Civil Service, because she desired to do her part for the war effort. She retired after 35 years of civil service. During her career, she was stationed at several military bases all
over the world as a court stenographer. Two of her most memorable cases were the Nuremberg Trial and the Adolf Eichmann Trial, where she served as one of the court stenographers for the United States. She retired in 1979 from the Aerospace Defense Unit at Peterson AFB in Colordo Springs, CO.

In 1990, she moved to Bartlesville, where she was the caretaker of her sister Margaret B. (Mitchell) Fowler. She was a member of East Bartlesville Christian Church. In 2001, she moved to Oklahoma City, where she lived with her two nieces.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by a brother, Clarence Eugene Mitchell of Marlow, OK; two nieces, Mardean (Marty) Fowler and Beverly Grigsby of Oklahoma City; two nephews, Clarence Logan Fowler and his wife Cherie of Dewey and Alan Mitchell and wife Janie of Norman; a greatniece, Erika Dawn Deluca and husband Mike of Norman; two greatnephews, Logan Nathaniel Fowler of Dewey and Tyler Mitchell Deluca of Norman; her special friend Evelyn Strong of Bartlesville; and several other nieces and nephews.
