When a young man, he decided to homestead in North Dakota and walked beside covered wagon all the way from Le Sueur County, Minnesota to a farm in North Dakota. Jule owned and farmed three different farms near Mandan, N.D. for 45 years before returning to Minnesota about 1950 at age 72. Jule never married.
Upon his return to Minnesota, he first made his home with his sister, Mrs Bertha Belz in Sibley County, Minnesota for about a year before living with his nephew, Herman Rohloff, Jr. and his family for the summer. Jule then lived in Le Sueur, Minnesota with Mr. Ora Pinney for about 5 years to early 1959, a couple months after Mr. Pinney died. He then lived in the hotel in Le Sueur for a couple years before buying a small trailer and living in it in Henderson, Minnesota before moving his trailer and himself to the Herman Rohloff, Jr. farm in Tyrone Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota. He resided with the Herman Rohloff family until he passed away in their home on Thursday evening, February 8, 1962 from a coronary heart attack at age 84.
"Uncle Jule" was a quiet, gentle man, much respected and loved by his great-nieces and nephews.
