Theodore was not a big man but he was said to have seriously red hair. When he left home, Theodore headed to Texas where his older brother Justine Albert Etue had settled. Tried his hand at being a cowboy but talked it better than he did it. One major exception- he was in a poker game in Woodville, TX about 1891 playing against Johnny Goins. (This was told to me by his son D Ira Etue in 1987). Last hand, Johnny was all in but out of cash. When Johnny staked his wife in the last hand, Theodore did not believe Johnny would pay up. Johnny lost and the next morning when Theodore came out of his cabin, Johnny had left Allie and her 3 yr old son Thomas John Goins on the porch of his cabin. Theodore took them to Kansas City, where they were married in a Protestant ceremony. (Theodore was from a Catholic family, Allie was not. They later divorced and remarried in Kansas City 18 May 1936, just 4 years before her death.)
They lived in Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Kansas City. On Apr 16 1940 (FED CENSUS) they were living in a tent between Rohwer (Rhour) and Kelso, Arkansas. Allie died there 6 Jun 1940. No one knows all Theodore did before he died in 1944, BUT NO ONE EVER FORGOT HIM.
Found his deathh certificate. At University Hospital in Little Rock for 16 days (with an old heart) when he died. He was cremated.
