Freda was the daughter of Gustav Nepper and Matilda Eschmann. On 15 Dec 1897 she married Elmer Minning and they had four children: Elmer, Jr., Lillian, Frederick, and Robert. Freda died of carcinoma of the right lung at the Speers Hospital at the age of 64.
