Alfred H. Sander of Couderay passed away suddenly at Park Falls from a heart attack suffered after three weeks' illness of flu. He attained the age of 64 years, having been born on March 28, 1888 at Haugen, Barron County. He spent his early life and attended school at Barron. He came to Couderay in 1919 after serving overseas with the 32nd division in WWI.

On May 17, 1922, he was married to Luzenia White, at Hayward. Surviving are his wife; five sons and five daughters; Delores, Alfred Jr., Robert, Alberta, John, and Michael, who live at home; Mrs. Neal Carryl of Winter, Mrs. Don Habeck and Mrs. P. Karpuleon, both of Medford, T/Sgt Lawrence of Ft. Worth, Texas, and four grandchildren; also surviving are two sisters, Miss Esther Sander of Milwaukee and Mrs. Ed Beaudile of Cameron; three brothers, Wm. Sander of Birchwood, Elmer of Eugene Oregon, and Herman of Rice Lake.

Mr. Sander was employed by the Conservation Department for approximately 19 years witht he Flambeau State Forest Dept., being stationed at Phillips. He was also a member of the American Legion Richison-Anderson post No 513.

The remains were moved from the Brown Funeral Home, Park Falls, to his home at Couderay on Saturday afternoon, where he lay in state until time of services Monday morning at St. Mary Magdalene Church. Services were held at 10:00 with the Rev. Fr. Levandowski officiating at the funeral mass. Rosary and vigil were held at the home Sunday evening.

Military services were conducted by the Richison-Anerson post of the American Legion. Legion pallbearers were Victor Borrie, Lawrence DeSmith, Odrie Baker, Jack Gavin, Edward Forester and Chas. Warner. Honorary bearers, all of the Conservation Dept. were Carl Kielcheski, John Korab, Leonard Smith, Arnt Aspmo, Joe Smith, George Gullickson, and Wesley Johnson. Legion color guards were Edward Patterson and Edward Wolzack. Color bearer were Harry DeKezel and Joe Eckl. The firing squad consisted of Jack Eckl, Robert Ryan, Frank Walczak, Dale Scharlau, Roy Canestorp, Steve Atherton, and Theld Keith.

Interment was in the family lot in the Woodlawn cemetery at Couderay.
