Dru was the oldest of three children born to Frank and Geneva Schramm Graves. She was born and raised in Maryville, Kansas. In the late 1930s her family moved to Hastings, Nebraska. Dru's mother became ill in the fall of 1944 and passed away in early 1945 when Dru was just 17 years old. At the age of 18, Dru started her career with AT&T and affiliated phone companies.
In 1947, her father, Frank, married Josephine Morgan, whom everyone adored. She was a beautiful addition to the Graves family. On November 24, 1951, Dru married Irl Welch in Perry, Kansas. They were the parents of two children, Corrine and Christopher. They eventually divorced in July of 1976. On November 29, 1980, she married Ray Maldoon, a widower, in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1980, she left Quest to begin her retirement years.
Her parents, Geneva and Frank, predeceased Dru, as well as her daughter, Corrine. Dru left behind her son Christopher, her sister and brother Susie and Jack, as well as her half siblings Mary and Mike. She was also survived by her two grandchildren, Bria and Carsen.
