He married Lorraine Johnson on June 13, 1959, and with her by his side, he served the community as a funeral director until the onset of his illness. He was the former owner of McClure Funeral Service, McClure Ambulance Service, and the Bicknell Memorial Cemetery. He was a pioneer in emergency medicine in Knox County and became one of the first certified EMT's in the state of Indiana. He was a former volunteer on the Bicknell City Fire Department and a member of the Knox County Sheriff's Department Merit Board. He one of the founders of Lincoln Trail Hospice (now Good Samaritan Hospice), and continued to serve as a board member of the Knox County Health Department. He was honored as the 1981 Bicknell Man of the Year after having served many years as a member of the Labor Day Homecoming Celebration. He was a member of the Mariah Creek Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, Lorraine, he is survived by his two sons: John Ralph McClure and his wife, Dawn (Johnson) of Bruceville and Steve Bruce McClure and his wife, Christa (Arnold) of Bruceville; one daughter: Catherine Ann Peterson and her husband Eric, of Leesburg, Florida; five grandchildren: Lauren Jacobs and her husband Matt, Benjamin McClure, Rachael Faulkner, William Michael McClure, and Caitlyn Janay McClure; and one brother-in-law, Col. James Pelzer of Jacksonville, Florida. He is preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Jane C. McClure; his mother and step-father, Paul Garrison; one sister, Charlotte Pelzer; one niece Jeanne Ellison; and one aunt, Ruth M. Ashby.
The family will receive friends Monday July 9, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Word of Life Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the church with burial following at the Bruceville Cemetery. Arrangements were by Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Bicknell Chapel.
