M. G. WEIDNER DIES
WELL-KNOWN MANUFACTURER AND FORMER MEMBER ALDERMANIC BOARD

M.G. Weidner, well-known manufacturer and senior member of the firm of Walsh & Weidner, died yesterday afternoon at 1:30 at his home, 508 Carlile place, after a lingering illness, although confined to his bed only about a week. Mr. Weidner was 57 years old. The deceased came to Chattanooga from Portsmouth, O., in 1886, and for some years followed his trade as a boiler maker, later forming a partnership with John King in the manufacture of boilers on a small scale. King sold his interest to the late Patrick Walsh, when the firm of Walsh & Weidner was established, and which has grown to be one of the largest boiler manufacturing plants in the south. At the time of his death Mr. Weidner owned half interest in the concern and had other business connections.

During the old regime Mr. Weidner served three terms as alderman of the Third ward, retiring with the inauguration of the commission government. Although a man of retiring disposition, Mr Weidner had strong convictions and could not be swerved from what he believed was right. As an alderman the deceased gave the city valued service, being conscientious and painstaking in his public duties.

Mr. Weidner was a member of the Elks, Knights of Columbus and Turnverein, and leading member of the Catholic congregation of the city. He married Miss Anne Friend, a daughter of John Friend, a former well-known Chattanoogan now a resident of Cincinnati. His wife died some years ago, leaving eight children - four boys and four girls - all of whom survive. The deceased also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Andy Wolfe of Portsmouth O., but who formerly resided here, and Mrs. George Leffler, also of Portsmouth. He was also a brother-in-law of Capt. I.G. Barkla, of the local fire department. Mrs. Friend, of Cincinnati, was at the bedside when the deceased passed away, and Mr. Friend also is here.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 at SS. Peter and Paul's church, the Rev. Father Francis Sullivan officiating. The pallbearers will be as follows: Active - P.J. Neligan, John Stagmeier, Ed Herron, Leo Straley, Sr., J.P. Winn, and H.F. Lawrence. Honorary - L.W. Liewellyn, A.H. Chapman, George T. Smith, C.L. Mertin, Ed Schweiger, John Dowling, Pat Delaney and T.P. McMahon.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet.
