Webster City, Ia. - Charles A. Blair, 64, former Hamilton county sheriff, died Thursday night while en route to a Webster City hospital after suffering a heart attack at his home in Ellsworth, Ia.∼The Jewell Review Thurs. 19 Oct 1944
CHAS. A. BLAIR DIED, lifelong resident of Ellsworth except for the years when he served as deputy sheriff and as sheriff of Hamilton county and lived in Webster City, died at 8:45 o'clock Wednesday evening of last week, while being taken to the hospital in Webster City following a heart attack at his home in Ellworth. He was ill only two or three hours but had not been in good health for some time.
The funeral service was held at the Terhume funeral home in Jewell Tuesday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock, with burial in Webster City. Rev Liming of Radcliffe conducted the service.
Charles Albert Blair was the son of Mr. & Mrs. John Blair. He was born at Ellsworth, Iowa, June 21, 1880, and died October 11, 1944, at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 20 days. He was eduated in the public schools of Ellsworth, was employed as farmer and as capenter in the Ellsworth community, served Hamilton County as deputy sheriff for six years and as sheriff for five years. He served as member of the school broad at Ellsworth and at the time of his death he was an assessor there.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
He is survived by his widow, the former Fannie Baxter of Webster City to whom he was married in Chicago in December 1943; by two daughters by his first marriage, Mrs. Wayne Smith of Jewell and Mrs. Roal Amundson of Portland, Oregon; others survivors include three grandchildren, Will, John and Myron Blair, all of Ellsworth; and three sisters, Mrs. James Egan of LaBaile, Ill., Mrs. Irl Hougas of West Concord, Minn, and Mrs. William Nelson of Dodge Center, Minn.
