Attorney John P. (Jack) Nash, age 85, of 819 N. 14th St., Manitowoc, died on Tuesday, March 8, 1994, at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 1994, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc. Rev. William Plank will officiate with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

He was born December 29, 1908, at Manitowoc, son of the late A.L. and Mary (Molly) Pritchard Nash. He married Ruth Chapelle Purdy, November 3, 1951, in Appleton, Wis. Mr. Nash was educated in the Manitowoc schools prior to preparatory education at Lake Forest Academy and Lawrenceville School. He attended Princeton College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1931 and attended Harvard Law School where he received the degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1934.

In 1934, Mr. Nash returned to Manitowoc to become the third generation of Nashes in the law firm then known as Nash & Nash and now known as Nash, Spindler, Dean & Grimstad. He served as a Major with the United States Army during World War II in the Army Counter Intelligence Corp. and the Judge Advocate Corp. Mr. Nash actively practiced law with his firm until his retirement in 1986. His career as a lawyer consisted of representing many well known local businesses and individuals as well as the local interest of insurance companies and national corporations. Throughout his distinguished career as a lawyer, he was active in civic educational, and charitable activities including the YMCA, Salvation Army, Presbyterian Church, Red Cross, United Way, Rotary, Memorial Hospital, Holiday House, Rahr West Museum, and the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc. During his lifetime he received many civic awards, including the YMCA Community Service Award, the Chamber of Commerce "Speak UP" Award, Distinctive Service Award of the Salvation Army, and Paul Harris Fellowship Award of Rotary International.

Mr. Nash was a member of many groups and organizations including the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, life member of the Branch River Country Club, member of Manitowoc Masonic Lodge #65 F&AM, Two Rivers Shrine Club and Tripoli Shrine Temple in Milwaukee.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Dr. Barbara P. Nash of Concord, Massachusetts, and her spouse, Patrick Flynn; a son, Dr. James L. Nash of Washington, D.C.; a step daughter, Anne Purdy Massey, of Bay Village, Ohio, and her spouse, George B. Massey; five grandchildren, Paige Chapelle Massey of Columbus, Ohio, Robert L. Massey of Bay Village, Ohio, David G. Massey of Bay Village, Ohio, Lindsay Pritchard Nash Flynn of Concord, Massachusetts, Whitney Pritchard Nash Flynn of Concord Massachusetts; a sister, Mrs. Earl J. Starkey of New York, New York; also three nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by a step son, David Purdy.

Friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday at First Presbyterian Church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials would be appreciated to First Presbyterian Church, the YMCA, or the Manitowoc Chapter of the Salvation Army.

Nash-Purdy Wedding Is Saturday in Appleton
At three o'clock Saturday afternoon, in the presence of a small gathering of relatives, Ruth Chapelle Purdy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Chapelle, Palisades Drive, Appleton, was married to John Pritchard Nash, of Manitowoc, son of Mrs. Archie Lyman Nash, of Manitowoc, and the late Mr. Nash. The Reverend Dascomb Forbush, of the First Congregational Church of Appleton performed the ceremony at the home of the bride's parents.

The bride's only attendant was Mrs. James Shattuck of New Haven, Conn. George S. Roudebush, of St. Louis No., acted as best man.

Mrs. Nash is a graduate of Lawrence College, Appleton, and did post-graduate work at Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass.

Mr. Nash is a graduate of Lawrenceville School, Princeton University, Princeton, N.J., and Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Mass. He is a partner in the law firm of Nash, Clark, Rankin and Nash, of Manitowoc.

After a month's honeymoon in Europe, including a short Mediterranean cruse, Mr. and Mrs. Nash will return early in December to Manitowoc, where they will make their home.
