Herbert Pringle Brown, Sr. headed for Alaska in his youth and spent some time prospecting for gold in the Klondike. He returned and married Della Middlesworth at Tower Hill, Shelby Co., Illinois. They came to Huntington to settle in 1900. He came here to be the Manager of the Armour Meat Company's new branch house here in town. He later worked as a salesman for Sehon-Stevenson Grocery Company and later opened an ice cream store that would evolve into the BonTon Restaurant. His work in sales would take him down to Logan on the train where he would rent a horse to make his rounds. They lived at 510 5th Avenue. In fact, he built the house there in 1902-03 and they lived there until their deaths. They had a Mrs. Henson who worked for them for years as domestic help in the home. She lived in Harveytown.
