FRED ZUMDAHL DIES AT AGE 60

WAS BORN AND SPENT LIFE IN THIS VICINITY - WAS ONE OF OUR RICHEST FARMERS.

Equipped by Nature with Strong Physique He Worked Hard All His Life and Was Rewarded With Much Farm Lands and Money

Frederic Zumdahl died at his home in Mount Morris at five o'clock on Sunday afternoon. In his passing the community loses one of its most rugged and prosperous farmers and kindly citizens. Equipped as he was by nature with a strong physique, and being one of the most frugal of men by hard work and close economy he became one of the largest landowners in the county and one of our wealthiest citizens.
Mr. Zumdahl suffered a stroke of paralysis on March 16, from which he appeared to be recovering, when on last Thursday morning he was again besieged with the affliction and remained in an unconscious condition till he passed away on Sunday evening.
Frederick Zumdahl, the son of Christian and Dorothy Schmitmeier Zumdahl, was born in West Grove, northwest of Mount Morris on Sept. 21, 1859, and his entire life was spent in this immediate vicinity. Death came at the age of 60 years, 6 months and 13 daqys.
On March 17, 1886, he was wedded to Miss Elizabeth Drake of near Forreston, and they were blessed with six children. William Henry died at the age of three years. The remaining children are: Mrs. Anna Mary Newcomer, Edward C., Laura Elizabeth, Emma Ruth and Iva Mabel, all of Mount Morris, who with the wife and mother remain to mourn. The grandchildren are Florence and Lucille Newcomer.
He is also survived by his brother, Christian A. and August Zumdahl of Mount Morris, and three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Kaney, Mrs. August Kaney and Mrs. Lewis Moring all of Forreston.

(The remainder of the obit was cut off on my copy, I'll try to get it on my nest trip to Mount Morris Library. )
