"Tonopah - Funeral services for Marvin (Moe) Giles, Nye county cowboy who died suddenly at Austin suddenly following the Fourth of July rodeo, were held from the Elks Hall here Saturday afternoon with officers of the local Elks in charge. Burial was in the Veteran's Plot of the Tonopah Cemetery.
Mr. Giles collapsed at Austin after a fist fight with E. M. Wayne and a coroner's jury ruled that death was accidental caused possibly from over excitement and over exertion, and a possible heart condition. Dr. Russell Joy of Tonopah testified that Mr. Giles suffered a serious heart condition and had been stricken with a heart attack last September, Mr. Wayne was charged with sisturbing the peace after the inquest.
A native of Nowna, Texas, Mr. Giles was born March 10, 1890. He came to Nye County from Arizona in 1940, working at various ranches as a cowboy, and at the time of death was employed at the Smokey Valley Ranch. Last fall Mr. Giles was one of the riders in the Pony Express race here but was forced to drop out early in the contest when taken suddenly ill. He was a member of the Tonopah Elks Lodge and of the local VFW."
