Gunnar Bruun Jensen participated in activities against the German occupation forces during World War II.

He worked at DSB (Danish railways) and moved to Copenhagen because of Gestapo's interest in him. During the summer of 1944 he became attached to the communist resistance organization BOPA. Together with his friend Otto Raarup he became known due to a spectacular escape from Gestapo. They were known as "Fynboerne" (the people from the island of Funen). They were both shot in Copenhagen on 23 December 1944 by Hipo (Danish auxiliary police corps established in 1944 by Gestapo).

The two friends share the same burial place at Odense Cemetery.
