ELMER CARTWRIGHT VICTIM OF TRAGEDY AT JACKSONVILLE

GLOUSTER--Elmer Cartwright, 22, of Green's Run, was fatally injured when the motor truck in which he and Ray Sayers, 16, were riding was struck by New York Central northbound passenger train No. 5 at the crossing just south of the Jacksonville depot Monday just after 3 o'clock.

Examination by Dr. A.J. Crawford determined Cartwright was fatally injured and Sayers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Sayers, was badly injured. Sayers was sent to Grant Hospital in Columbus.

Young Cartwright had been delivering goods for the Johnston store near the mine on the Coe farm. As he was returning to Jacksonville, he stopped at the Sayers feed store for some straw and Ray Sayers got in the truck with him to go to the barn to get it. Evidently neither of the boys saw the approaching train and they drove directly in front of it.

Cartwright was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Cartwright of Green's Run and for some time had been employed at the W.J. Johnston store, driving truck a greater part of the time. He was an industrious young man, well liked and had many friends.

Following his death, the body was taken to the Andrew & Wallace undertaking rooms on Front St. until this morning when he was taken to the home of Green's Run.
