John Dean Cowley, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully July 7, 2012 at the age of 75 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Dean was born April 19, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Cleo and Phyllis Nisonger Cowley. Dean graduated from South High School and went on to serve in the Army Reserves. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1991 after 31 years of service. He married Sandra Lee Swaner on January 15, 1960 and they were later sealed together in the Jordan River Temple. Together they had three children. Dean enjoyed bowling, golfing, building and flying radio controlled airplanes, and HAM radio. He enjoyed being an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Dean was preceded in death by his wife Sandy, infant daughters Cindy Lee and Phyllis Rose, parents, brother Richard, sister Jeanine, and beloved dog Rosie. Survived by son Jim (Michelle), grandson Nathan (Crystal), granddaughter Nikki (Brad) Naylor, sister-in-law Julie Cowley, and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of Legacy Village Memory Care and Millcreek Home Health & Hospice for their loving care of our dad. Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 14th at 11am at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City with a viewing at 9:30am.
