Mrs. Wade Dies at 80
Mrs. Homer D Wade, 80, wife of a former manager of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, died Saturday in Smithville. Bastrop County, where she lived with a niece, Mrs Leeannah Wood. She suffered a heart ailment for several years.
Mrs Wade lived in Dallas about six years until 1940 when she and her husband moved to Smithville. She was prominent in women's club work and was a former treasurer of the Texas Federation of Women's clubs for many years. Her husband, who died in 1942, was also a former manager of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce.
The couple also lived for a time in Washington. D C.
She was the former Nannie D Burks and was married to Wade in 1898 at Smithville. She was born in Denton, near the present TSCW campus, on the estate of her grandfather, John L Lovejoy, a pioneer Texan who fought in the Mexican War In which Texas won her independence. Lovejoy had extensive land holdings in Denton, Collin and Lamar Counties and near Weatherford and was an early-day chaplain for the Texas Legislature in 1872.
She attended schools at Taylor, Williamson County, and graduated from college in San Marcus. She was a Bible scholar and belonged to the East Dallas Christian Church.
Funeral Services will be held Monday in Smithville with Marrs Funeral Home there in charge of arrangements.
Surviving is a sister, Mrs Edna E Nale of Dallas.
