Edna Jean (Hall) Finnegan, 86, died Wednesday at Port Healthcare Center. Born March 15, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Austin B. and Margaret (Magowan) Hall. She was the wife of the late Dennis C. Finnegan.
Mrs. Finnegan was a resident of Newburyport since 1921 and graduated from Newburyport High School with the Class of 1935. She was a bookkeeper for Governor Dummer Academy for 30 years, where she was known as "The Voice of G.D.A." and in 2003 received a special award for her service. She was a member of the Alumni Association of NHS, the DeValera Circle, Daughters of Isabella, the YWCA, the Historical Society and the Horticultural Society and a member of the Friends of the Library. She is a former member of Girl Scouts of America and a leader for many years.
She loved family activities with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, two sons-in-law, a sister, Winifred Carroll of Newburyport, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Margaret Adams, Agnes Tarbox and Mary Shea.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Green Street. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Twomey-LeBlanc Funeral Home, 193 High St.
Donations may be made in her name to the Immaculate Conception Church, 7 Court St., Newburyport, MA 01950 or the Friends of the Library, 94 State St., Newburyport, MA 01950.
