He came to Indian Territory in 1890 and on November 6, 1892 he married: Nynia Jane the daughter of: Cyrus C. and Lydia (Boggan) Cornetzer, members of the Shawnee Tribe of Indians
of which Cyrus C. Cornetzer was the last chief.
They settled on a farm, 3 miles east of Big Cabin, where Mr. Madison planted a large orchard and lived for many years. After his children were of school age he built a fine home in Big Cabin to begin to educate his children. He went into the Hay Business there with his brother Joe. After his children began to grow into manhood and womanhood, they began to die of tuberculosis, five of them died in close succession. It was said that the father, Robert L. Madison, died of a broken heart because of the loss of his children.
