He served more than six years, received a battlefield commission as a Second Lieutenant, and was honorably discharged as a Veteran of World War II. He came to Niles, and signed-on with the New York Central Railroad. He served as a locomotive brakeman, and stayed on the railroad for several years after the Niles facilities were transferred elsewhere. He then came to be employed at National-Standard in Niles from which he retired.
Al attended Saint Mary Catholic Church with his wife, and was a member of the American Legion Post #26 in Niles, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5315 in Baldwin, Michigan. He had traveled with the Talons-Out Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to experience all the national monuments and memorials, especially the World War II Memorial. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and the companionship of his pet dogs, always a German Weimaraner.
On July 11, 1942 at Saint Mary Catholic Church he married the former Rose Marie Frucci with whom he celebrated the remarkable Sixtieth Anniversary of their wedding prior to her death on January 30, 2003.
