William Raymond Carroll, 80, 354 Wingfoot St., died Thursday, December 16 at his residence. He was born December 5, 1913 in Haralson County. His G.G.G.G. grandfather, Charles D. Carroll was an original signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was a retired Civil Service supervisor, U.S. Army veteran, U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII, member and past master of the Rockmart Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. Number 97 and Duke Masonic Lodge in Anniston, Alabama, member and past patron of the Rockmart Eastern Star, Masonic Lo-12, a second degree Scottish Rite, a shriner, member of the Rockmart American Legion Post Number 12, member of the Oddfellows and member of Second Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Allen Carroll, son Stephen Earl Carroll, and parents, Spencer and Lula Waldrop Carroll. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eunice White Gober Carroll of Rockmart; two sons, Spencer Allen Carroll of Niceville, FL and William Joseph Carroll of Valparasio, FL; daughter, Mrs. Yvonne Willoughby of Tampa, FL; two brothers, Frank Carroll of Lee's Summitt, MO and James Carroll of Leavenworth, Kansas; four sister, Mrs. Betty Gore of Dallas; Mrs. Mary Moon of Rockmart; Mrs. Mildred Crunkleton of Turin and Mrs. Zelma Blair of Powder Springs; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 18 from the Freeman Harris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Woodard and Rev. Don Butler officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rockmart Masonic Lodge in charge of Masonic graveside rites. Members of the Rockmart Masonic Lodge served as pallbearers. Members of the Rockmart Eastern Star Lodge served as honorary pallbearers. (The Rockmart Journal, December 22, 1993)
