Philip was the son of Joseph Brown and Elizabeth Wideman. He married Caroline Williams on Sept 21, 1840 in Toronto, Canada. They were the parents of 11 children: Jacob A (1841-1905), Mary Ann (1842, Crombie), Elizabeth (1843), Harriet (1844, Abijah Brown), John (1849, died at age 17), Keziah (1852), James (1857), Richard (1858), Amanda (1859, Wheat), Charlotte "Lottie" ((1860-1887, died at age 28, Ed Bittner), Jennie (died at age 66. Spencer), and one child died in infancy.

The Alta Advertiser - Friday , March 9th, 1906 - Philip Brown, who has been making his home with is daughter Mrs A.H. Crombie, east of town, died last Monday. The old gentleman was 93 years of age and was probably the oldest man in the county.

Philip Brown was born near Toronto, Canada April 17, 1818 and in 1840 he was married to Caroline Williams and to this union was born 11 children, 6 daughters and 5 sons.

In 1860 Mr Brown moved to Illinois and in 1890 came to this county settling at Storm Lake, where he lived until about 2 years ago when he and his wife came here to make their home with Mrs Crombie.

He leaves a wife, 4 daughters, and 2 sons to mourn his death. The funeral was held on Monday.
