George I. Warren, 79, well-known retired farmer of 311 Woodward St., died in a Rome hospital at 9:25 p.m. Monday. He had been in declining health for the past year, his condition becoming serious two weeks ago.

Mr. Warren was born in Chattooga County Oct. 18, 1880, son of the late Thomas Washington Warren and Sarah Jane Taylor Warren and had been a resident of Rome for 28 years, coming here from Cherokee County, Ala. He was married to Florence Virginia Roach on Sept. 10, 1901 and she preceded him in death July 11, 1938. He had been a Mason for 42 years and at the time of his death was a member of Oostanaula Lodge 113, F. & A. M. He was a member of the North Broad Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Virginia McCain of Rome and Mrs. Clara Bell Mitchell of Summerville, Rte. 2; four sons, Paul, George T. and Quinn Warren of Rome and S/Sgt. Robert Warren of the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Savannah; two brothers, Tobe Warren of Marietta and Webb Warren of Douglasville, Rte. 4; three sisters, Mrs. Lee Kilgo of LaFayette, Mrs. Jane Gray, Gadsden, Ala. and Mrs. Luma Allen, Cedar Bluff, Rte. 1. Thirty-two grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert S. Tucker, pastor of the North Broad Baptist Church and the Rev. C. L. Curry, pastor of Woodward Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the family lot in Johnson Cemetery near Lyerly.

The body will lie in state at Jennings Funeral Home and the family will receive friends there from 7 until 9 o'clock tonight. At other hours the family will be at the residence, 311 Woodward St.

Oostanaula Lodge of Masons will serve as pallbearers and be in charge of graveside rites. There will be a called communication of Oostanaula Lodge 113 F. & A. M. at the lodge hall at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday for the purpose of paying last tribute to Mr. Warren.
