Dyess is the original spelling of the family's name. Diass is a misspelling on the headstones of G. W. and Siney Jo Dyess. However, some descendants use the 'Dias' spelling and some use the original 'Dyess' spelling. It's unclear which spelling G. W. used as he was documented using both.
