BOSSIER MAN DROWNS NEAR MORGAN CITY
ORAN C. CHANDLER, 42, of Bossier City, drowned late Thursday in the Atchafalaya River near Morgan City.
Officers said Chandler, who had complained of being ill earlier was sitting on a dock beside the river when he apparently fell in the water. He was a drilling rig worker and had been working on a barge in the Gulf of Mexico.
CHANDLER WAS A native of the Hurricane Community but moved as a young man to Bossier City. He had been a plasterer and had worked most of his adult life in the Bossier City area.
Survivors include his mother Mrs. Delia Chandler of Bossier City: a sister Mrs. Elvia Eliasson of Bossier City; four sons Richard, Benny, Wattle Joe and Keith Chandler, all of San Bernardino Calif.
Funeral services for the deceased were held at 3 p.m. today at the Emanuel Baptist Church in the Hurricane Community of Bienville Parish. The Rev. L. C. Pickett officiated with burial in the Hurricane Cemetery under direction of the Conger Funeral Home.
