The following was taken from the Nov. 11, 1949 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for Mrs. Bertha Lee Spaulding, 28, Rt. 1, Lumberton, wife of James Burder Spaudling. Services will be held at Mt. Olive church and will be conducted by the Rev. Tommie Swett, assisted by Rev. Lonnie Jacobs.
She died yesterday at 4 p.m. at a Lumberton hospital where she had been ill for two weeks.
Surviving are her husband; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Brewer; three children, Geraldine, Elmer and Delmar; two sisters, Mrs. Gracie Lee Bell and Mrs. Rosanna Sanders of Rt 1; six brothers, Levie, Jr., Rt. 1, Bascom of Shannon; H. L., Henry, Clifton, Furman and Clayton of the home.
***NOTE: Her grave was later relocated to the interior section of the mausoleum at Lumbee Memorial Gardens, but her original headstone remains at Mount Olive Baptist in Lumberton, NC (please see photo of headstone).
