A Requiem Mass was sung Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church by the Rev. Henry Speck for Fred M. Brick and interment followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Mr. Brick, well known in the city, had been in failing health since December when he spent a month or more at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He succumbed Friday evening at St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato. Born in Rockford, Ill., September 3, 1893, Fred Brick came here with an aunt, Kate Brick, at the age of three. His parents were dead and she raised him. He attended grade school here and graduated from Owatonna High School. A graduate of a morticians school in Chicago in 1921, Mr. Brick returned to Owatonna and was identified with the management and operation of Brick Funeral Home and Furniture Store for more than a quarter century. He purchased the latter in 1932. In the past few years his sons, Don and William, have been identified with him in these business enterprises and as licensed morticians and furniture operators will continue the business interests of their father under the regular firm names. Mr. Brick was 60 years old at the time of his death. His wedding to Catherine Nolan of Rice County took place in St. Joseph's Catholic Church on May 15, 1926. He served in World War I and was in service overseas for two or more years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, BPO-Elks Lodge, VFW and American Legion. Throughout his years in business in the city, Mr. Brick took an active part in the associations of retailers and was a supporter of civic enterprise here and in the county. He is survived by Mrs. Brick and his sons, Don and William.
