HELEN Helen G.H. GEYER
EDWARDSBURG -Helen Ganshorn Hartman Geyer, 86, Lake Ct, Edwardsburg, formerly of Bourbon and Nappanee, died at 12:05 a.m. Saturday (May 21, 1994) at Elkhart General Hospital where she had been a patient for five days. She had been in failing health the past four years.

Helen L. Geyer was born Dec. 13, 1907, on Sumption Prairie near South Bend, Indiana, to Charles and Myrtle Fouts; the family moved to Walkerton, Indiana, when Helen was 5 years old; she attended the Oak Grove School for eight years, and graduated from Walkerton High School in 1926. She then entered Ball State Teachers College at Muncie, Indiana, in 1927 In 1928,Helen graduated from Indiana Central College in Indianapolis: she did supervised teaching there, In 1928, she contracted to teach Muncie School south of Helen, Indiana; she taught here until April 27, 1937.

In 1930, Helen was married to Glenn W. Ganshorn of Bourbon, Indiana. In 1937, they were blessed with a baby, Gaylia Ruth. She is now Mrs. Lowell Hartman. Five children were born to tier: Angela, Bill, Roger, (Wesley Glenn) Died Oct 1, 1992; little baby George lived only 30 hours after birth. Helen received her B.S. Degree from Goshen College in 1953. In 1953, she contracted to teach in the new Harrison Twp. School, and taught there 19 years. She retired from there in 1972. Helen's total years of teaching was 38 years in Public Schools of Indiana, and one year Kindergarten in Boca Raton, Florida. Glenn passed away to his heavenly home on January 28, 1957. In Dec. of 1961, she married Rev. John M. Hartman of Nappanee, Indiana. He passed away on Labor Day in 1972. In 1974, God led in the marriage to John L. Geyer of Bremen, Indiana. They bought Apartment 407 in Star Lite Condominium and spent the winters in Boca Raton, Florida. They bought a new modular home on Pleasant Lake in Edwardsburg, Michigan, where they lived until John passed away on May 11, 1979. Helen continued living in Edwardsburg. She is a member of Community Baptist Church located on US 12. Before coming to Edwardsburg, she taught a Sunday School Class and Bible Class at the Nappanee Calvary Baptist Church eight years. She is a member of the National Teachers Associates, the Indiana State Teachers Association, the A.A.R.P., the Retired Teachers Association of Marshall County, Elkhart County, Kosciusko County, and the Cass County Teachers Association of Michigan. 

Survivors are daughter Mrs. Gaylia (Gashorn) Hannan, four grandchildren, Angela and Bill Sharp, Roger One grandson, George preceded her in death. Seven great granddaughters. One brother Clell Fouts near Walkerton. One step-son, Delbert Hartman of Churubusco, Indiana. Two brothers also preceded her in death: Russell Paul and Howard Monroe.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 23, 1994 and Tuesday, May 24, 1994 from 4-9 P.M. at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home in Goshen. Service will be at 3:00 P.M. at Calvary Baptist Church in Nappanee. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be at Stoney Point Cemetery in Kosciusko County. Memorials may be made to the Gideons or to World Missionary Press, New Paris
