Robert (Bob) Carl Otis, age 60, went home to the Lord on Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Bradford County Manor in West Burlington, Pa., after a long battle with lung disease. He was born on March 26, 1947, at home on the family farm in Camptown, Pa., a son of Carl E. and Laura (Cobb) Otis. Bob wrestled at Wyalusing Valley High School, and after graduation worked on the family farm. In 1971, he married his former wife, Shirley Harris, and they had two children, Heather and Rob. Bob drove school bus for several years while also working at Taylor Beef, giving Taylor's 13 years of service, until becoming disabled from a stroke following back surgery at age 39. He then started "Bob's Lawn Mowing Business" and worked at that until he became too ill a couple of years ago. He is survived by his mother, Laura E. (Mae) Otis; his ex-wife, Shirley Whalen; his children, Heather Kithcart and Rob Otis (fiancé Kelly Johnson and her children Jim Bob and L.T.); brothers: Max (Claire) Otis, Ted Otis, Rocky Otis, Daryl (Joyce) Otis, Randy (Joan) Otis, half brother and sister: Jeff and Amy Taylor; and by his grandchildren whom he thought the world of: Kimberly, Kaitlyn and Shelbi; a special aunt: Betty Hillis; special niece Rachelle Otis Salsman; by special friends: Lloyd and Mike Farr and Gene Harris; and by many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to mention; as well as by his extended family at the manor. He was predeceased by his brother, Tom, in 1983; his father, Carl, in 2002; and a good friend, John "Oliver" Lynn, in 1978. Friends and family are invited to call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, at the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing, Pa., and from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, March 10, in the McHenry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Fox, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Camptown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to: Bradford County Manor, Activities Fund, RR 3, Box 322, Troy, Pa. 16947, in memory of Bob Otis. -Published in the Towanda Daily Review 3/9/2008.
