Jacob Schmearer, 78, Malta, died Saturday at a local rest home where he had been a patient since August.
Schmearer was born Nov. 12, 1889, in North Dakota. He went to Canada where he married Mary Zohn in 1912 and the couple moved to Dodson in 1914. Mrs. Schmearer died in 1931. Schmearer farmed for a number of years and later worked for the city of Dodson and at the Phillips County Fairgrounds until his retirement ten years ago when he moved to Malta.
Survivors include a son, Abraham, of Great Falls; a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Rachel) Heberlee of Loring and Havre, and seven grandchildren.
