Ruth was eighth of 12 children born at her family's home in Jameston, where her brother Frank later raised his family. She was baptized in the LDS Church on June 30, 1923. At about age 14, she suffered from rheumatic fever which seriously damaged her physical heart. She and Charley were married in Salt Lake Temple on 21 December 1932 and honeymooned with the Vern Davis family in Spanish Fork. Family members who shared their home included Eddie Warren, her sister Bessie's son, and her father-in-law. In September of 1964, she had one of the pioneer open heart surgeries at LDS hospital in Salt Lake to correct heart problems that seriously affected her health. She was enroute to Salt Lake for a second surgery with Ida, Yvonne and Lynn when she passed away.
