CAMBRIDGE - Robert H. McFarlane, age 82, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2002, at Willowbrook Nursing & Rehab Center in Lake Mills. Bob was bom on February 8, 1920, in the town of Leeds, Wis., the son of John Robert and Eva (Estabrook) McFarlane. He graduated from the DeForest High School in 1938, and joined the Air Force in 1942. He served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and retired in 1968, as a Senior Master Sergeant with a Warrant Officer rating. Bob was instrumental in establishing the Wisconsin Air National Guard at Truax Field in Madison, Wis. Bob worked for the Village of Poynette for 10 years ana for the United States Post Office in Madison for 14 years. He earned the Scouters Wood Badge while stationed in Germany and eventually became a Boy Scout Commissioner. Bob was a member of the American Legion in Poynette. His last eleven years were spent in Cambridge where he helped his neighbors with lawn care, handy-man projects, and driving for RSVP. For the last five years, he shared his life and love with Hazel Main of Cambridge, Wis. He loved his country and was proud to serve it. Bob is gone; but, his American flag will continue to fly. Surviving are sons, Dale (Linda) McFarlane, Robert (Kim) McFarlane, William (Jana) McFarlane; six grandchildren, Sean, Kelly, Shane, Teaque, Kristen and Jacob; three sisters, Amelia (Robert) Martin, Janet (William) Hughey, Doris (Don) Dahlen, brother, David (Fritzie) McFarlane, and a sister-in-law, Irene McFarlane. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, William and Alfred; a sister, Barbara Jameson and his wife, Frances Amelia Puttkam-mer. Funeral services will take place Friday, August 9, 2002, at 11 a.m. at PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF OAKLAND-CAMBRIDGE, Cambridge Wis. with Rev. David S. Brague officiating. Friends may call from 4p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at NITARDY FUNERAL HOME, Cambridge and after 10 a.m. on Friday at the church until the services. Interment will be in Poynette Hillside Cemetery, Poynette. A fellowship luncheon will follow the services and burial with full military rites will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at Poynette Hillside Cemetery. Those planning a expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Boy Scouts of America.
