Garrison, David G.

September 28, 1841

July 29, 1921

s/o G. G. & R.

Times July 28, 1921 David Garrison, son of David and Elizabeth Garrison was born at Garrison, Ill, Sept. 28, 1841. He was the youngest of a family of 10 children; seven brothers and three sisters, all having preceded him in death. He was left an orphan at the age of fourteen years and fell heir to the old home place where his residence has been his entire life, 79 years, 9 months, 22 days. Having passed away at 2:30 AM July 20, 1921. He was married on January 2, 1861 to Sarah TURNER who for more than sixty years has shared his joys as well as his sorrows and has been a true helpmate in all his undertakings. To this union six children were born as follows: Martha, who died at the age of 14 years, Andrew, Elizabeth, now the widow of A.T. Monroe, Emmer, who died at the age of 18 months, Edith, now the wife of C.L. Ledford and Gregg all of who now live within a mile of the old home place, and with whom they visited almost every week. They were all at his bedside at the time of his death. Besides those mentioned, he leaves to mourn his departure 18 grandchildren, the youngest 12 years old and 9 great grandchildren, who were all present except David Garrison Jr. who is sick with typhoid at Fairfield. Not long after his marriage, he embraced a hope in Christ and, with his wife, was baptized into the fellowship of Ellis Mound Baptist Church by Elder John B. Smith where he remained a faithful member until death. Uncle Dave, as he was commonly known was of a quite unassuming disposition, a true Christian, a loving, a devoted husband and a faithful friend; willing to share in the responsibilities as well as the expenses of both church and state and in whatever position he was placed he filled that place to the very best of his ability and to the entire satisfaction of his numerous friends and acquaintances. He was one of the last of the three Commissioners of Hamilton County and the first Supervisor to be elected in Crouch Township under township organization having received at the election in Crouch precinct every vote but one, a thing which has not been repeated, and shows in what esteem he was held by those who knew him, and his work was as an officer in giving Crouch township a clean and economical administration set a precedent worthy to be imitated and with the County Board in connection with the Poor Farm is well remembered by many of the older citizens. By hard work and close attention to his business he managed to accumulate enough to give all of his children a home and retain enough for old age. Uncle Dave had been failing in health for about a year but was able to be up and about his work until nearly three months ago, when he had a slight break down and had been confined to his room and bed until he gradually wore out. Thus closed a long and useful life. He being dead yet speaketh Heb 11:4. ~His race is done His crown is won His voice no more we'll hear But He speaks to us Through memory dear Which we should heed with care. Funeral at the home conducted by Elder Hubert Perry. Interment in Garrison Cemetery
