Lloyd H. Abney, 83 of Higginsville, died on Monday, Jul 16, 2012, at St. Luke's East Hospital in Lee's Summit.

Born Tuesday, July 24, 1928 in Sedalia, he was the son of Verdie Abney and Bessie (Hill) Abney. He married Audrey Cramer Sept. 25, 1949.

Mr. Abney served as a technical sergeant in the Air Force from 1948 until 1952 and was a veteran of Korea. He lived in Higginsville for the past 46 years where he worked for A & P Grocery Store, 10 years for Missouri Veterinary Supply then nine years as a car sales man at Lotspeich Motors in Warrensburg, retiring in 1994.

He was ordained as a deacon at East Sedalia Baptist Church on Jan 14, 1962 and received the Deacon emeritus recognition on March 22, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Higginsville where he was a member.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey of the home, two sons, Terry (Cyndi) Abney of Higginsville and Steve (Cathy) Abney of Warrensburg; one daughter, Dawn (Kevin Sanders) of Higginsville; one sister Gerry Summer of Sedalia; eight grand-children, Heather Huggins, Courtney Abney, Bryan (Cara) Abney, Marshall (Jessie) Abney, Chelsea Abney, Casey Sanders, Kyle Sanders and Cody Sanders; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marjorie Dey.

The funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at the First Baptist Church in Higginsville with Dr. Greg Fine officiating, pianist Doris Cavaness and Dennis Million as soloist.

Interment was in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville.

His grandsons served as pallbearers, Honory pallbearers were Gary Dey and Rick Smith.

The family will receive friends after 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, at Hoefer Funeral Home in Higginsville. Memorial contributions may be sent to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
