Miss M. Elizabeth Vautrin, 34, o
Syracuse, a graduate of the Mercy
Hospital School of Nursing and a
former resident of Watertawn, died
at 3:50 Saturday afternoon in the
Good Shepherd hospital, Syracuse, of
a blood stream infection developing
from a pimple on her chin.
The fatal infection is believed to
have developed from pinching the
pimple. Miss Vautrin had been in a
coma four days and she died despite
five emergency blood transfusion which were given her.
The body was brought to the home
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
F. Vautrin, Watertown.
Funeral services were held
day morning at 9:30 from the
of her parents and at 10 in
Holy Family church. Burial
made in Glenwood cemetery.
Surviving her, besides her parents,
are a sister, Mrs. DeForest E.
Clark, Tampa, Fla., and two nephews
Dick F. and David V. Clark, both of
Tampa, Fla.
Miss Vautrin was stricken ill on
the night of September 16. The fol-
lowing day she entered the Syracuse
hospital. Physicians diagnosed the
infection as staphylococcus aureus
and traced its source to the pimple.
Miss Vautrin was born June 2, 1907
at Rosiere, a daughter of Lewis and
Carolyn M. Radley Vautrin. She
moved to Watertown with her parents
when she was six years old.
She was educated in the Academy
street school and the Watertown
High school, being graduated from
the high school in the class of June,
1927. Later, she entered the Mercy
Hospital School of Nursing, from
which she was graduated in 1930.
For a time after she graduated
from the hospital's nursing school,
Miss Vautrin was engaged in private
duty work in Watertown. Later she
followed her profession in New York
hospitals for more than five years.
About three years ago she went to
Syracuse, where she had since been
engaged in private duty nursing.
While in Watertown she was a
member of the Holy Family church.
She was also a member of the Mercy
hospital Alumnae Association.
