Bertha May (Rose) Horvath, 83, residing in South Bend, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012 in Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 22, 1929 in South Bend to the late Harley and Hazel (Thaxton) Rose, and remained a lifelong area resident. On December 16, 1946 in Plymouth, IN, Bertha married Alexander R. Horvath, who survives.

In addition to her husband, Alexander, of South Bend, Bertha is survived by daughters, Mary (David) Stogsdill of South Bend and Judy (Ward) Deutscher of Niles, MI; sons, Michael Horvath of South Bend and Tony (Pam) Horvath of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Rick Bedell, Adam Horvath, Shawn Horvath, Gage Horvath, Ginger Neil, Stacie Mayes, Brandi Waters and Bailey Waters; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister Delta Jones of Niles, MI and brother, Joseph Rose, also of Niles, MI. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Horvath; sisters, Patricia Smith and Rachel McCarty; and brothers, Harley Rose, Jr., Don Rose and John Rose.

Bertha retired in 1996 after nine years as supervisor of the Morris Inn. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post 50, where she was president for seven years. Bertha was a God-fearing and strong willed woman, who never complained and put everybody else before herself.

Funeral services for Bertha will be 11:30 am, Friday, July 20, 2012 in Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, with Rev. Neil Wack, CSC officiating. Burial will follow at Ullery Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012 in the funeral home.
