Roy O. Akerson, age 80 of Wahoo, died Monday, July 16, 2012 in Wahoo.
He was born August 29, 1931 in Colon, NE to Otto and Frieda (Carlson) Akerson. Roy grew up on the family farm near colon and graduated from Wahoo High School. He enlisted in the United States Army on February 1, 1952 and served 2 years as a radio operator for a combat battalion in Korea where he earned 8 service medals. Roy married Yoshiko Moraskina in Tokyo, Japan on July 13, 1943. Following his military service, Roy returned to Colon to farm. He worked as a welder an in other various trades during the off-season. Roy retired from farming in 1993.
Roy married Nancy Prescott Yohe on November 24, 1990 at First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. Roy and Nancy enjoyed camping and travelling together through the southern United States. Roy enjoyed attending the reunions with his military battalion members. He was a member of American Legion Post #265 in Colon, Wahoo VFW Post #4502, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2971 in Wahoo. Roy faithfully attended his grandchildren's sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Yoshiko, parents Otto and Frieda Akerson, and an infant brother.
Roy is survived by his wife Nancy of Wahoo; son and daughter-in-law Dale and Linda Akerson of Wahoo; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Wes Kramer of Wahoo; grandchildren Josh (Marie) Akerson of Omaha, Jake (Jackie) Akerson of Lincoln, Zach Akerson of Omaha, Sarah (Matt) Larson of Omaha, Gabe (Jenny) Kramer of Wahoo, Kali Kramer of Lincoln; great-grandchildren Madyson Akerson, Melody Vasa, Kieran Akerson, Jett Akerson, Sadie Larson and Ella Kramer; step son Dan Yohe of Lake Havasu, AZ; step-daughter Lora (Scott) Dixon of Rocky, OK; step-grandchildren Seara Yohe, Lexis Dixon and Colon Dixon.
Memorials are directed to family's choice.
