Alice Tanner, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, returned to her Father in Heaven and the loving arms of her husband, Paul Benjamin Tanner on Sunday, June 7, 1998.

Mother was born March 22, 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the third child of Willard B. Richards, Jr. and Alice Coulam Richards. She married her eternal companion on March 1, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She is survived by her children, Paul R. (Linda), John B. (Kathy), and Annette Tanner; her daughter-in-law, Janice Prettyman; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Janet (Don) Stewart; and brothers, Steven C. (Ruby); and John D. (Marguerite) Richards; and many loving nieces, nephews, and special friends. She has been happily reunited with other beloved family members, her husband, Paul; son, Richard; grandson, Chad Tanner; sister, Sally Parkinson; and brothers, Henry and Willard Richards. She has deeply missed her own mother for 40 years and we know she is happy to once again be with her dear parents.

Mother loved life and her family was the center of her life. We will miss her beautiful smile, generosity, love and kindness to all, strangers and family alike. Holidays were a special joy to her. No one can ever replace her as the Halloween witch. No one was allowed to leave her house at Christmas without a plate of handmade chocolates. She was a great trekker. We're going to miss her turtles, her rice puddings, her raspberry ice cream and her chocolate chip cookies. Mother was always ready to play a little hand of cards and surely she is now playing with someone else who "needs a little fun."

Funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, June 11, 1998 at the East Millcreek 15th Ward Chapel, 3750 South Hillside Lane (2600 East). Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive and Thursday at the church prior to service from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
