Funeral services were at 11:00 A. M. at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Chapel on Friday, December 5, 2008, for Charles A. Box, 85, of Hokes Bluff with Charles Box, Sr., Dannie Box and Gary McCurdy officiating. Burial was at New Bethel Cemetery. Mr. Box went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 3, 2008. Survivors include his wife, Alma Box; sons, Charles Box and his wife, Janice, of Greenville, Dannie Box and his wife, Lucille, of Gadsden, daughters, Judy Green and her husband, Tommy, of Hokes Bluff, Vickie McCurdy and her husband, Gary, of Spring Garden, and Mary Goodwin, of Piedmont; six grandsons; four granddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Anthony Goodwin, Phillip Box, Mark Box, David Box, Jason Green and Matthew McCurdy. Honorary pallbearers were Woodrow Brown, Jr., Woodrow Brown, Sr., Eric McGee, Chance Goodwin, Heath Goodwin, Brantley Box, Tom Green, Brad Green, Dusty Brock, Blake Jones and Mark Westcott. Mr. Box was retired from Allis Chalmers. He served in the U. S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He was a farmer and a very good and dear friend to many.
