Joseph was born July 4, 1924 in Lorain. He had been a New London resident for the past 15 years, but had lived in Lorain, Elyria and Vermilion.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II in the South Pacific. Joseph and his wife owned gas stations in Lorain, Avon and Elyria. They owned and operated Adam's Grocery in Axtel for 30 years. He was a member of the Knights of Pithia, Lorain and Lorain AMVETS. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, hunting and the traditional family pig roasts.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Theresa Adam; 4 sons, Joseph Adam of New London, Ronald Jay Adam of Vermilion, Donald (Sandra) Adam of Columbus, Danny Lee Adam of Vermilion; daughter, Judy Ann Adam of Lorain; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Martha Zimmerman of Lorain, Teresa Burkett of TX, Faith Hemling, Wellington and Victoria (Howard) King, Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his son, Samuel Adam, Nov. 5, 1962; parents, Paul and Esther (nee Black) Adam; and brothers. Abel P. and David Adam.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 22, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion. Funeral services will be Monday, May 23, 2011 at Lakeview Baptist Church, 591 Ferndale Ave., Vermilion. at 11:00 am. Pastor Harvey Puckett will officiate.
Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military graveside services.
