On July 13, 2012, Ella was received into the loving, grace-filled arms of her Savior and Lord, Jesus the Anointed Son of God. Mom passed away due to complications of surgery and having chronic lymphocytic leukemia for over 20 years.

Mom was born Aug. 1, 1925, in the Big Sandy Hospital in Big Sandy to pioneers Otis and Ida Weible, then went home to the family farm/ranch on the Missouri River bottom near the Virgelle Ferry. In the summer of 1926, mom and her parents, along with her older siblings, moved to a new homestead south of the North Eagle Butte School. She completed eighth grade at the school and then joined Oscar in high school at Geraldine, graduating in 1944. A younger sister, Ethel, joined Ella while Ella was attending Geraldine High and a younger brother, Bob, remained on the ranch after attending North Eagle Butte School.

Mom often told of the times that she and her siblings were loaded into a sleigh by their father, Otis, with hot rocks and horse hide robes to cover up with. He would drive them to school one-and-one-half to two miles away and pick them up at the end of the school day. This was done oftentimes during the very cold winter months. Mom often spoke of her and her siblings riding horses to school during warmer months of the school year and having to race a neighboring stallion to the barn at the school because they rode mares. This was when there were very few barbed wire fences for livestock and the neighbors let their stallion run free. After graduation from high school, Mom went to work as a secretary for the 7th Ferrying Command on Gore Hill at Malmstrom Air Base.

After the war, Mom worked for Metropolitan Life, then on Aug. 31, 1946, Ella married Henry E. (Gene) Preshinger of Geraldine. After moving to Stanford in the spring of 1953, Ella became a Cub Scout den mother, taught Sunday school at the Presbyterian Church, cooked for two years at the By Way Café and the Stanford Hotel. She also worked at the Judith Basin County Clerk & Recorder's office, the SCS and ASCS (now Farm Services Agency), the Basing Trading Company, and in 1966, became Judith Basin county assessor and later, appraiser. Ella left the assessor's office in 1971 after she and Gene Preshinger divorced.

In October 1971, Ella married James B. Walsh and she traveled with Jim as he worked on the Minuteman missile system at various Air Force bases around the country. In 1976 or 1977 Jim and Ella bought a home in Belgrade and lived there together until Jim's passing in May 2000. Mom continued to live in Belgrade until October 2010 when she moved to Billings, to Aspen View Retirement Home to be closer to her son Ira and daughter-in-law Dee Dee Preshinger and family. Mom always missed Belgrade but was grateful to be living near her son. Mom very much enjoyed seeing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Ella was active for many years in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Stanford, becoming treasurer and post president. Later she became a VFW district president. She was also very active in Order of the Eastern Star and is a past worthy matron of the OES Chapter in Stanford and Belgrade. She also was a 50-year member of OES.

Surviving are her sons, Henry V. "Hank" Preshinger, of North Plains, Ore., and Ira (Dee Dee) Preshinger, of Joliet; sister, Vi Croshaw; daughter, Lois Tinker, of Twin Falls, Idaho; brother, (retired) Colonel Oscar (Laura) Weible and family, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Ethel (Ron) Hoagland; and daughter Brenda (Geoff) Fredrickson, of Lakewood, Colo.; grandchildren, Twyla (David) Lusk of, Dallas, Texas, Debra (Dan) Tresch, of Lewistown, Duane (Shannin) Preshinger, of Helena, Tara (Donny) Sinclair, of Mosby, Matthew Taves, of Great Falls, Amanda (Riley) DeWitt, of Midwest, Wyo., James Preshinger, of Joliet; and seven great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews scattered around the U.S.; as well as her special friend, Marge Schaper.

Preceding her in death are her husband, James Walsh; pioneer parents, Otis and Ida Weible; brothers Vic Weible and Robert Weible; and nephew Ted Mann.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on July 28, in the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel located at 113 S. Willson Ave., in Bozeman. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, in Helena at the Fort Harrison National Cemetery where she will be interred with her husband, James B. Walsh.
