He took an active interest in civic affairs of his hometown. He was among the charter members who organized the Ramsey National Bank, later serving as its president and director. He was also among those who organized the Ramsey Building and Loan Association, serving as both director and president.

He is survived by his devoted companion, a sister, Mrs. Thomas Blythe of Farina, several nieces, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Hargett funeral home in Ramsey, Sunday afternoon. Rev. Ellis Dugger, pastor of Methodist Church here officiated. Vocal selections were by Robert Mueller, with instrumental piano accompaniment by Mrs. S.C. Morrison.
