Lillian Sara Kerce Madden, 81, of Bowdon, Georgia, died Friday, August 31, 2007 at her home. She was born November 26, 1925, in Thomas County, Georgia, the daughter of Thomas J. and Addie Mae Owens Kerce. Mrs. Madden was the wife of the late Herman Madden and the mother of eight children. She had lived in Carroll County all her adult life. Mrs. Madden was a devout Christian wife, loving mother, and friend to all who knew her. She was a faithful member of Indian Creek Baptist Church in Bowdon where she was a Sunday School teacher until her health declined.

Mrs. Madden was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Madden on April 29, 1974; her son, Robert Madden on June 5, 2007; her daughter, Kathy Madden Swofford on June 20, 1998; her son-in-law, Billy Buchanan (# 84536266); a great-grandson, Ryan Madden; her mother, Addie Mae Kerce, when she was only four-years-old; her father, Tom Kerce; her stepmother, Mae Kerce; her mother-in-law, Charity Madden; brothers, Grady Kerce, Lawrence Kerce, and Preston Kerce; and her aunt, Katie Owens Pafford, from Boston, GA, who was a surrogate mother after her own mother passed away.

Mrs. Madden is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Curtis) Robinson of Bowdon, Carolyn Buchanan of Douglasville, Judy (Harold) Lovvorn of Bowdon, Gale Fauscett of Bremen, Rick (Cheryl) Madden of Carrollton, and David Madden of Columbia, Tennessee, Robert's wife, JoAnn Madden, and Kathy's husband, Curtis Swofford of Bowdon, her sisters, Pauline Lampkin of Thomasville, Inez Thigpen of Pavo, Jeanette Cox of Pelham, and Christine Wallace of Pelham. Mrs. Madden's family also includes twenty-four grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren with whom she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with. She will always be remembered for her love and patience while playing games and entertaining her grandchildren.

Funeral services held Monday, September 3 at Indian Creek Baptist Church in Bowdon with Rev. Rick Madden, Rev. Ralph Caldwell, and Rev. Joel McLeroy officiating. Music by Wilma Jeter, Christy Daniel, Lunie Preston, and Walter Thrower. Pallbearers are her grandsons. Craig Robinson, Matt Dutton, Keith Lovvorn, Jeffrey Madden, John Cramer, Jason Madden, Shane Swofford, and Mathew Madden.
Interment at Indian Creek Church Cemetery in Bowdon. Rainwater Funeral Home, Bowdon, in charge of arrangements.
