Elizabeth Frelinghuysen Kennedy was the Daughter of John and Elizabeth Mercereau Van Veghten Frelinghuysen of Somerset Co. NJ and granddaughter of General Frederick Frelinghuysen, who was a delegate to the Continental Congress from New Jersey in 1779, a member of the New Jersey state legislature in 1784 and again from 1800 until 1804, and a U.S. Senator from New Jersey from 1793 until 1796.
