Children
Billy Gordon Shipman was born May 24, 1945
Dwight Ray Shipman was born August 13, 1949
Deborah Lynn (Debbie) Shipman was born October 15, 1952
Bruce Leon Shipman was born July 26, 1956
The large Shipman family was known for their musical talent. Music was just in the Shipman family genes. Billy Bob was a Shipman, so that included him. This spilled over to his own children. Shipman family reunions always had lots of singing. They came expecting to enjoy singing together. Billy Bob also had very curly hair. His father, Gordon Shipman died in 1943 from a rattlesnake bite.
Billy Bob and Peggy moved to Seymour for about a year in 1953 when Debbie was a baby. He was the Manager for Perry Bros dime store in Seymour. A favorite memory I have during that time is drinking ice tea from tin cans at their house. Their tea was the best, and I thought this was the neatest thing. The cans really kept our tea cold. Later years, this became popular at a few restaurants. I would think of them when I saw this in a restaurant. Peggy's younger sister, Jewel, married Carroll Murphree Sept 14, 1953 in Vera. They had a small wedding and reception at the family home of Rev. Henry Patterson who also officiated the marriage ceremony. My parents and Billy Bob and Peggy used the Texas Movie theater In Seymour as a baby sitter for me, my brother, Robby, and Billy and Dwight. Of course, it was a treat for us. They carried Debbie with them as she was a baby. We were just fine when they picked us up. I was age 10, and kind in charge of the younger ones.
My mother, brother and I moved to Dallas Jan, 1957, shortly after Daddy died July 15, 1956. Bruce was born July 26, 1956, so Billy Bob and Peggy were not able to attend his funeral. They were living in the Houston area late 1958 to early 1959. They took that opportunity to come for a week-end visit with us. Mother loved seeing her family. Their visit meant a lot to her. Christmas 1960 found family gathering at Grandma Hollabaugh's house In Seymour for Christmas. Bruce had turned three in July. He was very good at saying "Merry Christmas everyone." They were leaving to go home the 26th, and he was still wishing everyone "Merry Christmas" as they were leaving. This brought laughter to our family.
Bill died unexpectedly from a heart attack in 1976 shortly before he would have been age 50. He had also suffered a heart attack prior to that.
He is buried in Vera Cemetery along with his parents, both of his brothers, his wife and youngest son, Bruce Shipman.
