Anthropologist. He was the most prominent student of famous anthropologist Sol Tax. Redfield held the Robert Maynard Hutchins Distinguished Professorship in Anthropology at the University of Chicago. He is known for his groundbreaking work with the contemporary Maya people of Mexico's Yucatán. Among his numerous publications was Chan Kom: A Maya Village. While so many scholars have focused their research on the prehistoric Maya, Redfield is unique for focusing on the living Maya.
