Sister to Nils Froystad. Gyda was born at the Froystad farm Breim, Gloppen, Sogn of Fjordane, Norway.
She married Johan Kristoffer Froystad who lived at the same farm but was not a relative. They had three sons but Johan died young and Gyda decided to come to America with their two oldest sons. In 1924 she and sons Gunvald and Sigvald left Norway. Son Ingvald did not leave Norway in 1924.
Gyda lived with her brother Nils in Ludlow then in 1925, he was living with Ivar in 1925. Her sons were also living with them in North Dakota. Later she and John Fossum were married and moved to Wisconsin.
